Tags: what they are and how to use them in RSS

Improving  organic positioning  and user experience are, in reality, two objectives that often go hand in hand, because the better our website is, the more users will like it, which in turn will also be liked by Google and will lead us to scale. positions on the results page or  SERP  ( Search Engine Result Page ). To achieve our goal of positioning well, there are many things that we must take into account, and among those that we may overlook are the tags in RSS.

What are tags

Maybe you can better understand what a tag is if you translate the term into Spanish. Here we would call it a label, and that is precisely its function, to label the content .

A tag can be made up of one or more keywords that are associated with a blog post and are used to classify them.

We take as an example this article that you are reading right now. We could classify it with tags such as “glossary” (since it helps you understand a term), “online marketing” (tags are necessary to increase the number of visits to a website) or “organic positioning” (because they also help SEO) .

All entries that are marked with the same tag are grouped together , regardless of the category to which they belong. This allows the user to search more precisely for the information they need.

How to make tags

Most content managers have simplified this function, they have a tags section in which you simply have to indicate the ones that correspond to the text you have created.

It is advisable to use labels, but not abuse them . If the classification is made too broad, it is distorted and causes the opposite effect to what was intended, that is, the visitor does not know where to find what he was looking for.

Think about the categories you have created for your content and within them use between two and four tags . For example, if you have created a website about hair straighteners and one of the categories is cordless straighteners, within it you could organize the content using tags that refer to the most important brands. Thus, if a user wants to find out about a certain model, it is much easier for them to find the information.

RSS and tags

RSS ( Really Simple Syndication ) is a system that helps distribute content and allows website visitors to be aware of new content.

By adding tags to the RSS, what we achieve is that users can receive only the information that interests them . This is especially interesting if it is a website with a lot of and very varied content.

Think for example of a newspaper, which publishes a large amount of news on different topics. An Internet user may not want to be aware of all the news, but simply those that have to do with the economy. By combining tags and RSS we ensure that the user only receives economic news directly in their inbox through a newsletter , which improves their experience and builds loyalty. This is what would be known as an RSS campaign in email marketing.

Tags are small, but they have great power when it comes to making a user feel comfortable on a website and turning it into a reference place for them. Hence the importance of working on them properly.
