Rich Media – What is Rich Media?

RRich media is a type of online advertising that tries to seek the interaction of users who browse a website through details that capture their attention, such as animations, sounds, games or other multimedia elements.

This digital advertising format is more attractive to users than old banners, since they can have movement, rotation, expansion and many other dynamic attributes that help make their degree of impact on users much greater.

What is rich media for?

Rich media serves to capture the attention of the website user and give greater visibility to the advertiser, thus increasing the chances of getting a lead.

In addition, rich media also collects data regarding the advertising campaign with which you can know its status or its perception by users.

Advantages of rich media

Using the rich media advertising format has the following advantages over using other traditional online advertising formats:

  • Greater flexibility:  the rich media format provides more design flexibility than traditional banners, having a greater editable space and a wide variety of options between the elements that can be included.

  • Greater impact on the user:  rich media advertising formats attract much more user attention than traditional formats, making them one of the most effective types of advertising.

  • Ad data:  they have relevant statistical data for the control and analysis of the campaign results.

  • They contain special functions:  sometimes they include functionalities such as sharing through social networks or other similar ones.

Rich media ads and examples

According to Google there are several types of rich media ads. We are going to show some of the most relevant ones with their respective examples:

  • Banner:  fixed size and position on the web; They can be videos or multimedia.

  • Dynamic creatives: they are the same as banners but instead of being fixed on the web page they are expandable and more dynamic and interactive.

  • Expandable:  It is a type of rich media like the banner, but it expands when you hover over it. They can be expanded in any direction or shape as required by the campaign and can be hidden by moving the mouse away or clicking the close button.

  • Interstitial:  this is content that floats above the page, normally appears when entering and has the option to close.

  • Push down:  they are similar to expandables only they are always at the top of the page. When you expand the ad you will find all kinds of interactive content, videos and many other examples of rich media.

  • Lightbox:  it is very versatile content for mobile and computer. At first it looks like a normal expandable, except that it occupies most of the screen and many types of content can be included such as image galleries, games, maps, videos, even as if it were a mini landing page.

  • VPAID:  consists of showing a short video during another video, that is, in the introduction, in the middle or at the end, but containing more options such as showing information, which can be rich media.
